A dome of this vast scale (a mile in diameter) would be Structurally Fail-Safe, because along with the inherent stability of geodesic tensegrity structuring, the amount of air inside would take months to evacuate should any air vehicle smash through its upper structure or break any of its trussing.

Fuller's World Game design science treats the tensegrity structured dome-within-a-dome, geodesic environment controls as comprehensive energy harvesting, storing & exchanging devices. In a dome of vast scale, air volume would be so great in comparison to the enclosing skin that its inside temperature would remain approximately tropically consistent independent of outside weather variations. If in producing geodesic domes-in-domes, we make them transparent or translucent on their sunny side and opaque and inwardly reflective on their shadow side, they will entrap progressively greater amounts of solar energy as heat for longer periods of time as the diameter increases.
